[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Airport Secures Millions in Competitive FAA Grants to Support Airfield Improvements

This month, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced over $674 million in infrastructure grants awarded to approximately 323 airports across the United States. Among the recipients, Bismarck Airport secured $8.2 million in competitive discretionary funds to advance critical airfield improvements.

The funding will support a range of projects, including milling and overlaying the east half of Runway 3/21 and Taxiway Delta, re-grading the safety areas for the east half of Runway 3/21, reconstructing the Runway 21 blast pad, and upgrading various lighting systems. These enhancements are designed to ensure the long-term operational reliability and safety of Runway 3/21 and Taxiway Delta, which are vital to the airport’s functionality. The project is scheduled to break ground in spring or summer of 2026.

Securing $8.2 million in FAA funding for airfield improvements signals that Bismarck Airport is being recognized at the national level. This visibility strengthens our position as we plan for future growth and pursue new airline routes.

The FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), established under the Airport and Airway Improvement Act of 1982, is a cornerstone of the nation’s aviation infrastructure. By providing funding to improve airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental sustainability, the AIP ensures that airports like Bismarck are equipped to meet the evolving demands of modern air travel while supporting the broader aviation network.
